Google Introduces New Features to Help Users Minimize Their Carbon Footprints

Google launched a suite of new features to several of its core products to help consumers make sustainable choices more easily.

These new features will focus on reducing planet-heating greenhouse gas emissions and will mainly focus on Search, Maps, Travel, and Nest.

In a pre-recorded video during a virtual press event on October 5, Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google and parent company Alphabet, said, “Today, climate change is more than a threat.”

“It is a real and present danger. From wildfires to flooding to more frequent and severe storms, climate change is the most profound risk we face, one that affects our health, our economies and our future together on this planet,” he added.

The tech giant has been a corporate leader in sustainability. The company became carbon-neutral in 2007. With the suite of product updates, Google hopes to make sustainability the easier choice.

India-Based CoinSwitch Kuber Becomes Country’s Second Crypto Unicorn

India-based crypto exchange platform, CoinSwitch Kuber, has raised $260 million in its Series C funding round, at a valuation of $1.9 billion.

The funding round was led by American venture capital firm a16z (Andreesen Horowitz) and Coinbase Ventures.

Existing investors Paradigm, Ribbit Capital, Sequoia Capital, and Tiger Global have also participated in the funding round.

Founded in 2017, CoinSwitch is a global aggregator of cryptocurrency exchanges and has now become the second crypto unicorn in India and is now valued higher than CoinDCX’s $1.1 billion valuations.

CoinSwitch Kuber will utilize the latest proceeds for onboarding 50 million Indians on its platform and will also launch new products.

The main goal of the company is to make crypto a household name, thus continuing to dominate the retail crypto market in India.

The startup plans to achieve this through the launch of new crypto products and services such as lending, staking, among others, enabling users to take advantage of the decentralized technology.

Zuckerberg Denies Accusations That Facebook Prioritizes Profits Over User Safety

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg publicly addressed a recent series of negative stories about the company by saying that accusations about Facebook prioritizing profit over user safety are “That’s just not true.”

“It’s difficult to see coverage that misrepresents our work and our motives. At the most basic level, I think most of us just don’t recognize the false picture of the company that is being painted,” Zuckerberg said in a post on his Facebook profile.

This came after whistleblower Frances Haugen, a former Facebook employee, testified in a Senate hearing about her experience and said that the social media giant prioritized profit over user safety.

The company doesn’t benefit from content that makes people angry or depressed or make all product decisions to maximize user interactions, the CEO said.

“I’m proud of everything we do to keep building the best social products in the world and grateful to all of you for the work you do here every day,” concluded Zuckerberg.

Twitter is Improving The Quality of Live Video by Eliminating One Feature

Twitter has said that it is dropping a feature to invite guests from its live broadcast tool. The purpose behind this decision is to make your video broadcast quality better.

“As of today we’re removing the option to invite guests when you go live, so we can improve your video broadcast quality. Your viewers can still interact with you through chat and hearts,” posted Twitter on its Support account.

In context, now, you will not be able to invite guests to join you in a broadcast via audio ahead of going live.

Currently, when you go live, your broadcast will just feature you and whoever else happens to be in the frame, although users can still post in the chat or tap to add a heart to interact with you while you are broadcasting.

Twitter says the change is aimed at improving video quality, but Twitter has another feature for shared live audio. It’s a clubhouse-like space offering.

Spaces seem to capture more than what Twitter live video has allowed you to do, so perhaps Twitter thinks it’s redundant to offer both, making it a more attractive feature.
