Elon Musk Says Starlink Internet Service Will Leave Beta in October

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said in a Twitter post that the company’s Starlink satellite internet would come out of its open beta phase next month.

However, this new date is two months later than the August date Musk gave at Mobile World Congress.

Starlink is a unit within Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies Corp (SpaceX), and it is the world’s largest satellite constellation.

The Starlink system aims to build for a constellation of nearly 12,000 satellites in low-Earth orbits that will beam continuous broadband internet service.

Starlink’s satellites are closer to Earth than traditional satellites resulting in high bandwidth and low latency, which could help close the gap for broadband in rural areas and developing countries where conventional internet access is either unavailable or too slow to be practical.

The company opened its public beta test in October 2020 for a few select consumers at a $99 monthly fee.

Starlink plans to sell its internet service to consumers in rural areas around the world at 100Mbps download and 20Mbps upload speeds.

Data Suggests El Salvador Ranks Third in Global Bitcoin ATM Installations

According to a report from Coin ATM Radar, El Salvador currently has the third-largest network of crypto ATMs in the world after the United States and Canada.

El Salvador accounts for 70% of all crypto ATMs in South America. It has left the UK in terms of crypto ATM count after installing 205 crypto ATMs to facilitate local Bitcoin transactions.

The Central American country had ranked 43rd on the crypto AMT list, with only four functional crypto ATMs, but it has successfully installed 201 ATMs within a month.

Earlier, president Nayib Bukele had said that Bitcoin’s adoption would be supported by a network of 200 ATMs and 50 branches.

For this purpose, the government collaborated with an in-house cryptocurrency wallet provider (Chivo) to power the BTC wallets and ATM usage in the country.

The growth in El Salvador’s ATM deployment drive complements the recent presidential order mandating all businesses to accept payments in Bitcoin.

Currently, El Salvador uses both Bitcoin and the U.S. dollar as legal tender. The Chivo kiosk is the government’s first attempt to create an infrastructure for BTC and U.S. dollar conversions.

SpaceX Inspiration4 Civilian Crew Land Back Safely After 3-Day Private Trip

SpaceX capsule with the world’s first all-civilian crew to launch into Earth’s orbit safely completed their three-day space trip with a splashdown in the Atlantic Ocean off the Florida coast on Sunday.

The four tourists completed the historic Inspiration4 mission as their SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule, called Resilience, parachuted into the ocean, not very far from where their flight took off three days earlier.

“Splashdown! Welcome back to planet Earth, Inspiration4!” SpaceX posted from its official handle on Twitter with a clip of the landing.

Jared Isaacman, the billionaire who sponsored the trip and who was also its mission commander, said in reply, “Thanks so much, SpaceX. It was one heck of a ride for us… just getting started.”

The all-amateur crew was the first to circle the world without a professional astronaut. Jared Issacman, who paid millions of dollars for the trip, wanted to show that any person could go into the orbit by themselves, and SpaceX took them on as the company’s first rocket-riding tourists.
